Hazardous Waste Treatment
Inorganic liquid & solid waste must undergo various treatments in order to ensure safe disposal. Whatever the required process, Chemkel can provide solutions designed to give you total peace of mind. Treatments include: Neutralisation of acidic and alkali materials. De-watering of sludge’s. Chemical oxidation of liquid and solid cyanides. Phase separation/ultra filtration of oil/water mixtures. Pre-treatment of heavy sludge’s including consolidation and biological treatment
Recycling
The amount of waste Britain produces continues to increase year on year. Over recent years key environmental legislation has placed the onus of responsibility upon you the waste producer. Chemkel can take this responsibility on and advise you free of charge as to what can be recycled. Typically in the past waste recycling has been associated with paper glass and metals, however, with recent changes in regulations it now makes commercial sense to reduce and recycle all forms of waste including:
- Aerosols
- Batteries
- Vegetable oil & fats
- Printing Wastes
- Fluorescent Tubes
- Electrical Waste including computers
- Contaminated Packaging
- Plastic
Composting and Land Spreading Operations
Composting
Composting is nature's own and oldest method of waste disposal and soil fertilisation. Compost forms as a result of the natural breakdown of organic material derived from living animals and plants. This decomposition is largely aerobic i.e. the bacteria, fungi, insects and animals, which inhabit soil require oxygen to break down the organic material. In a compost heap these organisms generate heat as they decompose organic matter and break it into fine particles.
Land Spreading
Food wastes, effluent treatment sludge and other liquids are recycled to agricultural land which provides agricultural benefit through nutrient addition.
This not only provides our clients with a cost effective, environmentally responsible disposal route but provides nutritional benefit to the receiving soil.

Recovery
Chemkel can custom refine and return purified product to a customer’s own specification, thus offering a comprehensive toll recovery or "laundry" service. These wastes include:
Other waste streams that can be recovered include:
- THF
- Acetonitrile
- NMP
- Pyridine
- DMF
- Organic acids
- Commodity solvents such as acetone, industrial denatured alcohols, xylene and toluene
Other waste streams that can be recovered include:
- Concentrated sulphuric & hydrochloric acid
- Liquid & solid wastes containing precious metals
Incineration
For certain categories of waste including Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS) and confidential materials, only the highest levels of secure destruction are appropriate in order to satisfy both commercial and legislative requirements. In these cases, High Temperature Incineration is frequently the most cost-effective solution.
The process, which involves heating to temperatures in excess of 1100°C, delivers a destruction efficiency of 99.99% and is ideally suited to the secure disposal of hazardous by-products, redundant or obsolete products, laboratory waste and agents, contaminated electrical equipment and contaminated soils.
Meeting all authorisations and legislative requirements, we offer maximum flexibility for the handling and receiving of a wide range of materials and offer considerable experience of transportation and logistics to ensure safe and rapid transit at all times, whatever the destination.

Landfill
As the government increases Landfill Tax rates annually, and imposes more and more constraints on the materials acceptable for landfill, Chemkel are continually investigating new, innovative alternatives to process these waste streams.
For waste streams that can only be land filled, we cater for every type of collection method including packaged wastes, RoRo, compactors, meiler skips and bulk tipper.
